Tuesday Feb. 3.SENATE.The senate to-day devoted nearly the whole of two sessions to the consideration of the Mayo resolutions providing for an investigation of the railroads of the state. After being changed from a joint resolution to a simple resolution of the senate, and being otherwise materially amended, it was adopted without a dissenting vote.When the senate came to order Senator J. D. Smith presented a petition signed by 500 citizens of Minneapolis against the abolishment or extension of the patrol limits in that city. The petition was referred to committee.Senators La Due and McHale both came to the rescue of young girls with bills amending the penal code by raising the age of consent. Senator La Due** bill raises the age of consent from ten years to sixteen years. Senator McHale introduced three bills, amending all the sections of the penal code relating to rape and abduction, and fixing a uniiorm age of consent in all three matters at thirteen years. The bills all went to the judiciary committee.Senator John Day Smith’s bill making general election day a legal holiday was passed by the senate.In committee of the whole, with Senator Davis in the chair, Senate Files Numbers 50 and 68 were recommended to pass.
