of film and 5,720 meals later, the 350 cast, extras and 100-plus crew of the television series My Life As A Dog com pleted filming late last month. Atlantis Films and Credo Entertain ment recently announced the completion of principal photography of the series, scheduled to air later in the year on The Movie Network and the Superchannel in Canada. The initial season of 22 half hour episodes were filmed in Gimli and Winnipeg .My Life As A Dog is the first televi sion drama series every produced in Manitoba and a project like this will have an enormous long-term impact on our film industry and the province, says Derek Mazur, president of Winnipeg's Credo Entertainment Corporation and an executive producer of the series. The series is based on the acclaimed book of the same name by Reldar Jons son, who also co-wrote the Oscar nominated feature film with the film's di rector, Lasse Halstrom. My Life As A Dog focuses on Eric Jo hansson (Michael Yarmush, Losing Chase, Kids Of The Round Table), an 11-year-old boy who is in the midst of the greatest challenge of all childhood to adulthood. With the recent death of his mother and the absence of his father, Eric is set adrift until he lands in the quirky fishing village of Gimli and into the arms of his charming, yet irresponsi ble uncle and ‘temporary’ guardian : a wrap. A quarter-of-a-million feet Johnny Johansson (Callum Keith Ren nie, The X-Files, Double Happiness). Eric copes with his exile in Gimli by regarding it as temporary and reminding himself that things could always be worse. The cast of My Life As A Dog in cludes Eric's closest friend and dearest enemy, a rebellious young girl named A. J. Burke (Marley Otto, Choices of the Heart: Margaret Sanger Story), Zoe Jo hansson (Jennifer Clement, The War Be tween Us, The Marshall), the unfailingly optimistic and enormously energetic woman married to Johnny, and Auntie Auntie (Joy Coghill, Sliders, The X Files), Johnny's great-aunt, Eric's great great aunt, the town matriarch and the keeper of Gimli's traditions, myths and legends. Executive producers are Martin Katz (Squawk Box, Wildside), Derek Mazur (Trial At Fortitude Bay, Heads), Reldar Jonsson, Donna Matson Jonsson and David Brandes (The Quarrel). Credo partners Kim Todd (The Diviners, Paris or Somewhere), and Michael Scott (Lost In The Barrens, Curse of The Viking Grave) are the producers. Michael Scott also directed the first four episodes of the series. Barbara O'Kelly (African Skies, Destiny Ridge), and Ann McNaughton (Destiny Ridge, E.N.G.) are executive editors. Atlantis Releasing will distribute My Life As A Dog worldwide. Manitoba Premier Gary Filmon got into the action during the filming of the television series My Life as a Dog. Filmon appears in the fourteenth episode of the series which will air later this year on Superchannel and The Movie Network. The politician plays the part of a Gimli town official in the drama about a boy's voyage from childhood to adulthood.
