(UPI)- District Judge Marion Beatty, in a surprise move Tuesday, allowed William F Zimmer, charged with first degree murder and kidnaping, a court - appointed attorney; then set trial for March 15.Zimmer is charged with the kidnaping and slaying of Gladys Johnson, a 7-vear-old Negro girl who was abducted from a Topeka street last November.Beatty also announced Tuesday that a court - appointed sanity commission found the 44-year - old Kansas City, Kan , railroad engineer sane and able to stand trial.Beatty appointed Elwaine Pomeroy, a Topeka attorney, to represent Zimmer.Zimmer, appearing in the blue prison uniform, told the judge that Sam Crow, a Topeka attorney who represented the defendant in earlier proceedings, was familiar with the case.
