EX-BAILIFF IS DISMISSED BY SAFETY BOARDWHITTNC. Feb. I.— T’c 1 if*- Offie r Andrew Wawrzyniak, who has been bailiff of the Whiling lt;■ i.y rojri for the past; eight years, was yesterday afternoon dismissed from the Whiting police force by the Whiting Board of Safety at its regular meeting.No definite reasons for the dismissal could be learned, James Xejdl, A1 Gondon and .Mike Hannon, members of the safety board, could not he reached by telephone today to give reasons concerning their action. However, from other sources, it was said that Wawrzyniak’s dismissal was automatic, inasmuch as a new bailiff, Paul Jancek, had been appointed by City Judge Charles S. Perel, thereby making the former bailiff sort of a free agent.Chief of Police Clay lt;p. Collins today stated that he recommended Wawrzyniak to the safety board, as a good patrolman, but according to him, the board overruled his recommendation and moved for a dismissal. When asked whether he knew why Wawrzyniak was dismissed, Collins said he did not know, but intimated that the police force lost a good policeman by the dismissal.Wawrzyniak was appointed as a patrolman on the Whiting police force in 1922. Soon after his appointment to the police force he was appointed bailiff of the.city court by Judge T, Joseph Sullivan.
