Mrs. Flora and Mrs. Clingen peel the Plaintiffs in The Suits. SENSATIONAL ELOPE MENT IS RECALLED Ex-Trustee Flora and Mrs. Clingenpeel: Prospering in South Dakota. Harriett A. Flora filed suit for divorce in the circuit court Wed nesday morning by Boyd Julien her attorneys. The complaint, which is very tame, considering the provocation, states that they were married in Floyd county, Iowa, on Sept. 6, 1875 and that he abandoned her Sept. 28, 1903 and has since been living in adultery in Canada and the northwestern part of the Unit ed States. That they have 4 chil dren living, two of whom are not of ege and asks their custody, and says that he left $2500 in debts, which she had to pay. Mrs Flora did not make oath to her complaint but “affirmed” that it was true as is customary with the Dunkards. . The filing of the suit recalls the sensational flight of John M. Flora, ex-trastee of Monroe township, with Mrs. Rebecca Clingenpeel on Sept. 28,1903. Mrs. Clingenpeel abandoned her family and with Flora went to the northwest terri tory where they now reside land where it is said they are prosper ing. F'ora took with him a nice bunch of money but left all of his property to his wife, together with the $2,500 in debts she speaks of. It is a rare thing for a member of the Dunkard church to bring divorce proceedings, but business reasons make this necessary. In the circuit court at Pierre, 8S. D., Mrs. Rebecca Clingenpeel has brought suit for divorce from Wm Clingenpeel. She states that they were married May 22, 1882 in Car roll county and she bases her com plaint on charges of vile language and abusive treatment of her. She says his abuse began in 1887 and in 1892 he threatened her bodily harm and also asid he would com mit suicide. She says they have had 5 children and she wants the custody of the 2 minor children. Mr. Clingenpeel has employed C. R. Pollard to represent him and, while he wants her to have the di vorce, still he will fight for the chil dren who are now 11 and 13 years old and keep house for him at his home southeast of town. In a letter to a “friend” who re sides near Bringhurst, several days ago it leaked out that “John and Becky” had resided at Wotaskivin, Canada, eight months prior to the filing of the divorce suit by Mrs. Clingenpeel but had decided to lo cate at Pierre, 8. D., permanently. It is supposed that they want to get married so they will be safe in Uncle Sam’s domain. But their plans may fail, as Chas. Pollard’s excursion to the South Dakota capital may cause an explosion.
