By Lynn Kandel “Hi people! This is Scotty Roberts with my partner in crime Dave Lee sittin’ here in the musical matter with the tops in pops, some old, some new, some borrowed, but none blue.” This introduces Scotty McMaugh and Dave Schiska and their Travelin’ Musical Matter, currently spinning platters at record hops around the campus, and who will be appearing at the Lollipop hop at Stopherhall, Friday night with dance contest and Northeastern Ohio’s Top Ten. Scotty, though a success on his own, felt that a partner would add variety and a more relaxed atmosphere. Along came Dave who sat in with him on a few shows. Success struck these freshmen and now they “chatter with platters” on the “Matinee” show on WKSU at 4:05 Wednesdays. Both gained experience in high school, Scotty at Parma Heights in Cleveland with music in the morning and a coverage of sports and Dave, a Mansfield graduate with after din ner speeches and sports coverage. Their taste of music, from their own record collection, runs from the “light and polite swing,” to ‘mood music for dancing.” Each has his own tastes, Scotty’s appreciation for America's greatest jazz featuring Rusty Bryant and his “Night Train” fame, with Nat “King” Cole spot lighting the soft dreamy mood music for Dave. Sports also enter their lives. Scotty, a goalie on the KSU hockey team skated in the Cleve land Baron’s Junior Hockey league for five years. Dave, a member of the tennis team at Mansfield high, hopes to continue at Kent. These speech-radio majors want to expand statewide and establish a reputation. After graduation they will move on to commercial radio, and as they would put it, “give Bill Randel a run for his money.” LOCAL DISC jockeys appearing at Stopher Hall’s Lollipop Hop tonight are Scotty Roberts (left), and Dave Lee.
