Circus coming to Raleigh Feb. 4-Mar. 12 RALEIGH — Exotic wild animals, cavorting clowns, beautiful dancing showgirls and even the Pink Panther — all a part of the 113th edition of Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus. The greatest show on earth opens in Raleigh at the Dorton Arena Feb. 28 through Mar. 4 for 12 performances. Tickets are available at Dorton Box Office, Sportsman's Cove in Crabtree and Cary Malls, Kerr Drugs in Durham and Quail Hardware in Quail Corners. Always a favorite, Gunther Gebel-Williams will demonstrate his mastery over the animal kingdom as he performs with Bengal tigers, elephants and Lippitan stallions. His 12-year-old son, Mark Oliver, will present his first trained animal act — performing goats. The Pink Panther celebrates his 20th birthday by joining the show, trying his hand at a variety of circus skills including juggling and stilt-walking. The Carrillo Brothers, high-wire artists dance and skip 40 feet above the arena floor. Making its debut in the area, and defying the laws of gravity, the Fearless Bauers will perform 70 feet in the air on four slender aluminum swaypoles, using no safety devices. For the first time in more than half a century, the show will present a pack of trained baboons, exhibited by trainer Irving Hall. A circus highlight is the ballet on the demanding Roman rings and the flying trapeze by the Flying Espanas. Bulgaria’s most talented acrobats perform on the teeterboard vault. Preservation Hall Jazz Band at Coliseum Sunday GREENSBORO — Preservation Hall Jazz Band, a group of New Orleans musicians who travel the world playing the music they created decades ago, will perform at the Greensboro War Memorial Auditorium Sunday at 8:15 p.m. Although most of the musicians are over 60, their music is bright, young, and filled with spirit. Tickets are $11 and $9, and are available at all Ticketron Outlets.
