Sunland Man Sentenced Manslaughter of WifeA Sunland man was sentenced Friday to state prison for one to 15 years for voluntary manslaughter in theshooting death of his wife last June 14.Donald Ray Waidelich 32 was given the prison sentence after being convicted Dec. 27 by a jury in Van Nuys Superior Court.The sentence was imposed by Judge Jay Ballentine, visiting Superior Court judge from Tulare County. JudgeFLOOD BOOSTo control certain injurious insects, cranberry bogs are periodically flooded.Ballentine had been assignedto the case originally when the j local court load became unusually heavy.Dep. Dist. Atty. Aaron Stov-itz, who prosecuted the case, said Judge Ballentine ordered Waidelich to state prison in spite of a Probation Dept, recommendation of probation for the convicted man.Waidelich was found guilty of killing his wife Edith Jean 30 by shooting her numerous times as she stood in the walkway at the rear of their home at 10302 Jardine Ave.Police said Waidelich shot his wife with a .32 caliber automatic pistol.
