—Jan. Ct. Blaino, tho greatest of ail American statesmen, died at his homo in Washington last Friday morning. Mo was recognized as Jho l^anei; of the li6publican*u party throughout America. Ho was to American politics what Gladstone is to English politics. His doath however will have no harmful ofFoet in the party, as younger men will now be given a ohance to become the head and front of the great party that he represented, and we believe that his equal will soon bo found among the thousands of brilliant men in the country who are endowed with nature’s richest gifts as he was. Through great opportunities Blaine became a great man, and a nation mourn s h is loss. His courage, tireless energy, zeak and aptness made for him a monument in tho hearts of the American peoplo that will last forever.—The floral display at Blaine’s funeral on Tuesday was so large that five wagons* were required to carry the flowers to the cemetery. It was intended that the funeral should be private, but public interest was so great that it was impossible to re-istrict the attendance, and peoplo Went by tho thousands to pnpr their last respects to the great man now gone up higher. The .[unoral was held at the Blaino home in Washing, ton. Kev. Dr. Hamlin delivered the Presbyterian services for the dead. After the rendering of a dirge on the piano by Walter Damrosch, Dr. Hamlin thanked God that life onded only that immortality might bogin, and .besought tho Almighty for comfort to tho members of the stricken household.
