BURIED TREASURE,Considerable Excitement Created by theOSgcoTery of a Pot of Hidden Tioilonre.New Orleans, Jan. 2$.—Considerable excitement was created Tuesday at Pass Christian by the discovery of a pot of buried treasure. Colla Narcisse, a colored man, was plowing in a vacant lot owned by Nicholas Buchert, when the plow struck a bidden object, breaking off the point. On looking to see what be bad struck be found a curiously shaped jar, such as are still used in Mexico and South American countries to bold water. Tbe jar was broken and found to be nearly full of silver coin. They examined and counted tbe coins and found 309 silver half-dollars of American coinage and two quarter pieces ranging from 1794 to 1526. Tbe remaining contents consisted of Spanish and Mexican piasters and smaller coins, dates from 1720 to ,1829. Tbe value of tbe whole is estimated at $235. As to bow it got there, tbe most plausible theory is tbat it was buried by an old negro named Charlo, who was a slave of Mme. Azmar, one of tbe first settlers of the Pass. His cabin stood near tbe spot and being a raiser, it is naturally supposed tbat he bid bis hoard in tbe ground about the year 1830. ....... —m • •»-- —..........
