James (Jim) Eugene Drebnisky of Dauphin, Manitoba, passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2000 at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre, Dauphin, at the age of 91 years. Jim was born in Strysi- Trembowla, Austria on January 1, 1909 to Nicholas and Antonia (Sytnyk) Drebnisky. Jim's father came to Canada ahead of his mother to settle and prepare a home for his family, and in 1921 Jim's mother and family joined Nicholas. They settled in the Keld district and in 1936 Jim was united in marriage to Helen Smylski at Keld, MB. Together they farmed in the Keld district till his retirement in Dauphin in 1972. During Jim's retirement years he remained active, enjoying fishing and his daily trips to have coffee with his friends. Jim also pet eons and looked orward to his daily visits from his grandsons. He was predeceased by his parents, son Lloyd Drebnisky; brother Peter Drebnisky; and sisters Anne Dubek and Mary Koroluk. Left to mourn and to cherish fond memories are his wife Helen Drebnisky of Dauphin, MB; children Estelle Georgison of Winnipeg, MB, Elsie and husband Bill Speers of Dauphin, MB, David Drebnisky of Dauphin, MB, Joyce Bullen of Vernon, B.C., Harvey Drebnisky of Dauphin, MB and Betty Drebnisky of Dauphin, MB; as well as seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Prayers were held on Friday, January 21, 2000 at 7:00 p.m. in the Sneath Strilehak Funeral Chapel. Funeral service was held on Saturday, January 22, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. in the Riverside Evergreen Chapel. Rt. Rev. Msgr. Murat Michael Buyachok officiated and interment followed in the Dauphin Riverside Cemetery. Mr. Marvin Procyshyn served as cantor for the service. Pallbearers were Terry Genik, Darren Genik, Kevin Georgison, Tony Drebinsky, Ron Marzyk and Stanley Kustra. Friends whose desire may make memorial donations to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the charity of one's choice. Sneath Strilehuk Funeral Service had care of arrangements.
