Audible pleasantriesYou go your way and ...by Ron CabalReviews over Bob Dylan’s appearance in Ft, Worth last week have been '‘sweet and bitter.” Local newspapers talk of the concert as a disappointment for Dylan fans, This is highly insane. The only disappointment felt by any true Dylan fan was the sudden realization that the concert was over and there might never be another.MY ONLY GRIPE was the presence of so many “curious listeners.” People wanting to just get in on the action and see what this Bob Dylan is like. Some people were probably let down when Bob Dylan just walked out with The Band instead of emerging from a flaming Fireball.“That doesn’t sound like radical, protest music. Why, that sounds almost, ugh, country.” You can see why it might have been better if these 14,000 Convention Center seats could have been saved for the hard-core Dyianers.Coming out with The Band, Bob Dylan started his show with “Most Likely You Go Your Way and I’ll Go Mine.” He then went through other songs of his own writing with The Band, among which were “Lay Lady Lay” and “Rainy Day Women Number 12 and 35.”r*—* : 1i ft it yy riwnr In —AFTER A SHORT time had passed Dylan walked off leaving The Band alone in the limelight. Starting off with “Stage Fright”, title song from their third album, they carried the show on in very good taste. I was most impressed by Bass Guitarist Rick Danko, whose voice hung in the air with the great emotion of Dylan and Drummer Richard Manuel.Dylan rejoined The Band and after a few more songs called a brief intermission. Bob then came back out, whereupon he played five songs accompanied by himself on guitar and harmonica, including “The Times They Are A-Changin,” “Don’t Think Twice It’s Alright,” “Gates of Eden,” and “It’s Alright Ma(I’m Only Bleeding).”Bob was then replaced by The Band who continued to play some of the best music there is.DYLAN REJOINED HIS comrades on the stage once more to finish up the evening's merriment. Of the 13 Dylan-Band songs, the most memorable were“Lay Lady Lay,” “Rainy Day Women,” “Ballad of Hollis 1 Brown,” “Just Like a Woman,” “Knockin on Heaven’s Door”, “All Along the Watchtower”, plus two songs from his new album, “Planet Waves,” “Forever Young ” and “Tough Mama.”Bob Dylan stormed into “Like A Rolling Stone” as the house lights went on and the rush to the stage started. Before I knew it, they were finished and had left the stage. Immediately a thundrous roar overtook everything and as house lights were dimmed thousands of spectators held aloft lit matches and lighters.Dylan suddenly walked on stage with The Band for the last time. They started in where they had left off on their first song, “Most Likely You Go Your Way and I’ll Go Mine.” A most suitable note to end with when you know you’ve just seen Dylan for the first and probably the last time.WMTARUfittRilDUVE-INNS
