GlDDINGS BEATS CALDWELL 75-49 IN DISTRICT 17AA GAME TUESDAYThe Giddings Buffaloes beat the Caldwell Hornets 75 to 49 in a District 17AA game played Tuegtiay night in Giddings. The Hornets, coached by Bryant Stone have a season record of 10 wins and 10 losses. Their record in district is one win and three losses.. Qddwell started off very cold, kn^wnd themselves trailing 21 to' 4 ifter the first period. In the second period, Caldwell out-scored Giddings 17 to 14, and trailed at halftime 35 to 21. |ln the third period, Giddings ook command of the game pour- j ing in 22 points, while Caldwell got 13. The quarter ended with Giddings leading 57 to 34. CALDWELL BEATS SMITHVILLE 51-34The Caldwell Hornets beat the Smithville Tigers 51 to 34 in a non-district basketball game last Friday night. The game was played at Hornet gym.Caldwell led all the way in notching their 10th win of the season. The score at the end of the first quarter was 15 to 7 and 24 to 17 at half time in favor of Caldwell. In the third period Caldwell scored 11 points to Smithville’s 10 bringing the score to 35 to 27 at the end of the period. In the fourth qaur-ter Caldwell scored 16 points while holding Smithville to 7, making the final score 51 to 34. His “brother” there will be 17-year old Pedro Martinez.Other members of the family include Pedro’s brother, Antonio, 20; and his sister, Beatriz, 15.Jake’s own family includes a sister, Mary Jo, and brothers John, Michael and Patrick.Mrs. Waller pointed out that of the 5,000 to 6,000 students who apply for the Americans Abroad program of AFS each year, only about 1,300 are chosen. She explained that after a community has sponsored a foreign student, it may nomi nate candidates from the participating high school for the AFS Americans Abroad programs that year.Jake’s home for the next year will be a roomy apartment on the third floor of an apartment building in downtown Talcahua-no, a block from the main square of this industrial and fishing city, which is also the site for the main na\y base.His Chilean school will be the Liceo Fiscal Coeducacional de Talcahuano, which has about 2,-000 students. It will begin on March 15, and ends Dec. 15 for senior students. There will be a two-week vacation in July — the winter vacation — and a one-week vacation in September.
