Lease issues force doors to shut at one site. By Jack King CNJ STAFF WRITER jack_king@link.freedom.com Tom Martin, owner of the Taco Box restaurants, said the company closed its site in North Plains Mall on Sunday because it was unable to reach an agreement on the extension of its lease with mall owner General Growth Properties. Martin said the North Plains Mall Taco Box had 13 employees, some of whom were employed temporarily for the Christmas holiday. All permanent employees who desired to stay with Taco Box have been offered jobs at restaurants in Portales or on West 21st Street in Clovis, he said. Martin said Taco Box has reached an agreement to sell the equipment from its North Plains Mall site to another company that is negotiating with General Growth Properties to move into the same location. “I don’t want people to think we’re mad at the mall, because we aren't. The local mall representatives, Cindy Banister and John McCool, have always been gracious and helpful,” Martin said. Shayla Moffitt, a leasing agent for General Growth Properties, said company policy does not allow her to discuss the specifics of lease negotiations.
