MARION — Findlay High’s Hank Kramer was awarded a stalling point with five seconds remaining in the final period and beat Jonathon Adler's Dave Beddow 4-3 for the 175-pound championship in the Marion Harding wrestling invitational Friday night. Kramer, who raised his record to 7-1, was deadlocked 3-3 when the referee awarded it the decisive point after Bed dow had to be warned the second time for stalling. In his semifinal match, Kramer stopped Jeff Ratliff of Shelby, 4-2. Westerville South capped the 16-team competition with 17844 points while area power Elmwood, behind individual cham pions Dave Lee (126) and Jeff Non nemaker (167), was third with 129% points and Findlay seventh with 93 points. Elmwood’s Lee improved his record to 9-1 by decisioning Galton’s Bob Dorian in the finals while Nonnemaker matched the 9-1 standard by routing Scott Sansone of Westerville South, 18-3, in the champion ship match. The Trojans’ Lee Smith, only a sophomore, turned in an impressive show ing en route to a second place finish. Smith (112) pinned Gary Zimmerman of Westerville South in the semifinals before losing to 1976-77 Class A state champion Mike Stalnaker of Jonathon Adler, 11-5. Bruce Heater (145) took third place with back-to-back consolation wins over Shelby’s Mark Bond, 14-1, and Marion’s Paul Stallings, 14-2, while Tim Geoghegan (132) was fourth. Geoghegan, unbeaten in six previous matches, lost to Upper Sandusky’s Jim Clements in the semfinals, 3-1, before whipping Keith Sharrock of River Valley, 4-2, and losing to Westerville South’s Kenly Gehert, 2-0. Bill Coburn (185) and Dave Bishop (Hwt) placed fifth and teammates Chip Frey (126) and Randy Smaltz (167) sixth. Coburn decisioned Delaware's Scott Ray, 12-11, lost to Steve Carr of Galion, 8- 3, and topped Marion’s Gary Curren, 6-3, while Bishop beat Tiffin's Jim Sangregory, 8-3, lost to Mike Veley of Marion and pinned Galion’s Steve Allan. Frey edged Marion's Mike Lindsey, 6-3, and Smaltz whipped Wendell Fletcher of Lima Shawnee, 7-3, before each wrestler lost his next two matches. Elmwood had eight other grapplers place in the top six with Bob Boltz (185) se cond, Bill Hill (112) and John Wagner (138) third, Wally Borowicz (105) and Lynn Myers (145) fifth and Tim Lee (98), Dave Nonnemaker (132) ,and Tom McGrain (155) sixth.
