Court records reflect that the defendant entered a plea of not guilty to the charge and was discharged in Municipal Court yesterday by Judge Graham Sudbury. FIREMEN ANSWERED two alarms early this morn ing, both of which involved malfunctions in gas regula tors that resulted in fires. The first blaze occurred at 1213 South Ninth and was reported at 12:10 a.m., according to authorities Damage to the dwelling was confined to the kitchen, Assistant Fire Chief Ed Smith said, but it was described as moderate to extensive. The second call came in at 1:20 a.m. in connection with a gas heater in a living room of a home at 410 West Missouri. Only minor damage resulted, Smith said. In both instances, Smith explained, it appeared that the rain and freezing weather conditions caused the gas regulators, one on a meter and the other on a tank of bottled gas, to malfunction. Residents are advised, Smith said, to check these devices to insure that water dripping off the roofs of their homes onto the meter or bottles has not frozen, clogging the regulators. A simple solution to prevent this from occurring, he added, would be to cover the meter or bottle in some way.
