Special Stockmee9§ Program lor Farm aedl Home Week(From the Montana State College).WITH John T. Caine, III, chief of the Packer Stockards Administration as one of important speakers, stockmen of Montana look forward to an important series of livestock meetings in connection with the annual Farm and Home Week program which will be held at Montana State college, Bozeman, January 4-8.Mr. Caine was a speaker at the Farm and Home Week meetings last year. He has an intimate knowledge of the livestock and marketing problems of the west. Last spring he was appointed by President Coolidge to take charge of government activities in the supervision over stockyards and packing plants. In his message to the Montana stockmen he will discuss marketing problems in the light of the experience gained in his new work.Stockmen attending the Farm and Home Week session this year also will have an opportunity to consider the production problems by which they are faced under the conditions now prevailing in the state. These discussions will he led by C. N. Arnett, in charge of the ainmal husbandry department of the Montana State college, Dr. W. E. Joseph, ii charge of feeding experiments at the Montana Experiment Station, R. C. McChord, associate animal husbandman at the college, Dr. Howard Welch, veterinarian and R. L. Waddell, livestock specialist for the Montana Extension service. Especial attention will be given the “Truth in Meats” campaign which is attracting the interest of stockmen throughout the country as a means of acquainting housewives and meat consumers with the quality of meat from different grades of animals. The campaign is intended to arouse a greater demand for meat from finished young stock and thus stimulate the production and marketing of animals of this kind.Sheep and wool growers of the state will devote Friday of Farm and Home Week to the consideration of their problems, with special emphasis on marketing and increasing fleece weights. W. A. Deneke, superintendent of the range sheep experiment station at Dubois, Idaho, whre the government is conducting large scale range sheep experiments with a band of three thousand head, will discuss the factors influencing wool production in range sheep. Mr. Waddell will hold wool grading de-montsrations, considering such matters as length of staple, shrinkage, and the use of different kinds of wool. Specially prepared wool samples representing all grades and qualities are being prepared at the Boston wool market for use at these demonstrations. M. E. Stebbins who has been appointed secretary of the Montana Wool Growers' association, will discuss the financing of Montana's wool sales.these sheep In Montana to recieve the benefit of affiliation with the American Ramboillet Sheep Breeders' association.Wednesday of Farm and Home Week has been set aside for the consideration of beef cattle and hog problems and Friday is sheep and wool day. In addition a special program on crops and soils has been prepared for Friday. Potato growers will meet on Wednesday and Thursday, with a program to go with the annual meeting of the Montana Potato Improvement association. Dairymen will have their day on Thursday, at which time the Montana State Dairymen’s assoiatlon and the Montana Holfltein-Freisian association will meet. The Montana Farm Bureau convention will take place on Monday and Tuesday and the program for farm women will extend through the four days of Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.Rambouillet sheep breeders will have a special interest in the wool meetings because of the proposed organization of a Montana Ramboiul-let Sheep Breeders' association, which will enable the breeders ofIi c c f f 1 c aqt1*acvtPoo\biiooCthPii
