The railroads serving New Orleans have announced alp. m. closing on Saturdays all the year around to all their employees in the freight departments.Peter Kaiser, Sr., died in New Orleans Friday, aged ninety-seven years. He was known from one end of the city to the other by the older generations, and was held in high esteem for his charitable deeds. During the Civil War, says the New Orleans States, “ Mr. Kaiser gave a pair of shoes to each member of an entire regiment of soldiers of the Confederate Army, known as the Tiger Rifles. Only two of the regiment ever came back to see the old shoe man.”
