‘Infant Cries and the Wretch Shows No Mercy to the Helpless Child. HE HAS REPEATEDLY COMMITTED OFFENSE ‘Geo. Wray Arrested for As sault and Battery and Bound Over. A charge of child beating with a notice from the humane society and proably the reappearance of the “Flora Whitecaps” may be served ap a cerain young man of this city in the near future sh uld an occurrence which took place a few nights ago occur again, says a reliable informant to the Democrat The story is a true one, coming direct from pries in a position to know. A few months ago this same young man became enlarged in the law and it looked as though he was son to have two wives to provide for when he suddenly dis appeared but kept up a correspord ence with one of the ladies. In the meantime elose frieends of the lady with whom he corresponded came to his assistance with some gio, hard varned money and squared mattere with the other petty. As soon as matters were straightened the peo ple hoped they would live happy and be prosperous but their ex pectations have wholly been upset A very pretty young babe arrived at their home a few months after the marriage and it is stated on re liable information that the infant has been bumped and cetfed about by it’s father long enough A few evenings ago during the midnight hour the baby cried and awakeard the father from his slep, when as quick as a flash of lightning the father showed a right apparcut in to its face, bruising and cutting its flesh considerably and this was not the first offense either, so it is said. The mother at ornce gave the best of attention to the babe, and ever since has been living with her parents. It is one of the saddeal cases on record in these parts and in this age of civilization will not be tol erated. Later— After an exciting chase the gentleman mentioned above, George Wray, was finally captured at his home in the west part of the city as he stood with a shot gun in his hands. He gave himself up to Marshal Benson and Deputy Frank Porter without a struggle, and was arraigned before Town Clerk Toole on a charge of assault and battery, of which he plead guilty. Owing to the fact that p erson charged with same cannot e fined over $2500 for such in a Justice’s court, the Colonel bound Wray over to the Circuit Court under a $200 bond which he was unable to furnish and was taken to Delphi by the officers Thurs day night. The law should be used to the limit in this case.
