Mrs. Newell in Court.Mrs. Kate F, Newell, 216 South Grove avenue, Oak Park, filed a voluntary p tition in bankruptcy the other day. Mrs. Newell seeks to escape the responsibility of paying* 8*50.961 of debts accrued by her husband, Frank B. Newell, at one time head of the Newell Coal Coke Company, which failed less than a year ago.Newell left Chicago after his wife had bigned away her estate of 812,000 to meet some of hi6 liabilities and then further involved herself until almost her husband’s entire indebtedness fell upon her shoulders. After her husband left her, burdened as she was with a family of five small children, Mrs. Newell struggled on until the limit has been reached.In the petition she seeks exemption for a diamond ring, which brings back to her the memory of her courtship.Mrs. Newill is a much respected member of the First Congregational Church of Oak Park, She was a mem* ber of the party accompanying Rev. Dr. Win. E. Barton to the Holy Land. She is very much of a lady and there is nothing in this case but what is to her credit She has been loyal and true through it all, so her friends, who know her best, say.
