Wednesday, December 30, 1970Post Commander Hummer Honored At Christmas PartyDaring a recent Christmas Party, VFW Post 8577 Commander Thurmond Hummer was presented a lifetime membership to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States.Hummer, known to alot of people throughout the VFW, National, State and local, as Mr. V.F.W. has been active in the VFW since 1949, Commander Hummer first joined the VFW at Hooks, Texas, from there to Louisiana, commanding a post at that time. In 1954 Hummer came to Copperas Cove, Texas and organized VFW Post 8577, recievingthe charter on April 27, 1955. Since that time Hummer lias been Commander of Copperas Cove Post for twelve years During these years Commander Hummer has achieved such outstanding appointments as National Deputy Chief of Stall', National Aide DeCamp(3times) Department Instructor for the State of Texas, All State Post Commander times) which no other post commander in the state las ever acliieved.Humrner has maintained an Honor Roll Post since its organization. He has been through the chairs in District 14 asTHURMOND HUMMERJunior Vice Commander, Senior Vice Commander and Commander.All this plus the outstanding leadership, guidance and hard work places the title of Mr, V.F.W. unCommander Hummeiby his many friends.n rn
