Wednesday, December 30, 1970Post Commander Hummer Honored At Christmas Partythe charter on April 27, 1955.Daring a recent Christmas Party, VFW Post 8577 Commander Thurmond Hummer was presented a lifetime membership to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States.Hummer, known to alot of people throughout the VFW, National, State and local, as Mr. V.F.W. has been active in the VFW since 1949. Commander Hummer first joined the VFW at Hooks, Texas, from there to Louisiana, commanding a post at that time. In 1954 Hummer came to Copperas Cove, Texas and organized VFW Post 8577, recievingSince that time Hummer has been Commander of Copperas Cove Post for twelve years During these years Commander Hummer has achieved such outstanding appointments as National Deputy Chief of Staff, National Aide De Camp (3times) Department Instructor for the State of Texas, All State Post Commander (3 times) which no other post commander in the state las ever achieved.Hummer has maintained an Honor Roll Post since its organization.
