PLYMOUTH, Mass.—Perhaps the first murder of record in America involving white men occurred in 1630 when John Billington climaxed a quarrel with John Newcomer by ambushing him and blasting him with a blunderbuss. After a public trial, Billington was hanged, drawn and quartered.
