He**e*s Good Yield of CornJ. F. Bachman of Union, Hardin County, has a record of corn production which compares with the best in the state. He raised *73,460 pounds of corn from a trifle under eight acres, which at 70 pounds per bushel gives a yeild of 131 bushels per acre. If the moisture content is considered and deducted it will still leave a yield of at least 110 to 112 bushels per acre. The corn was raised on an old blue-grass feed lot which was ploughs ed up for the first time this season, so that the soil, having been manured heavily for many years, was in execellent condition.A contest is being closed up by the farm crops department of Iowa State College which will bring out some remarkable yields of Iowa corn for- the year. Data concerning this contest will be given out during the Farm and Home Week at -.Ames, Jan. 3-8, 1921.The yields secured from each of the 128 entries will be graphically represented. One hundred pounds of corn from each plot will be shown, as also a sample of the seed. Results of the corn yield contest are being’ awaited eagerly by the farmers of the state. By growing high yielding strains of com under absolutely uniform conditions of soil, climate and cultivation the Iowa Com Growers Association' hopes to find the highest yielding strain in the state.
