At a special meeting of the County ■ Commissioners last Thuraday, Alex. McKenzie wag appointed Sheriff of But* leigh County,Tice Char lbs H. McCarthy, deceased. The Commis sioners received and placed on file the petitions wbilt;fh were presented favoring the appointment of this or th it individual, but thought it best to a( t upon their own judgment, and unanimously agreed upon McKenzie. Messrs. McLean, Griffin, McArthur and Stoyell becanjje his bondsmen. The appointment meets with general satisfaction.
