WITH THE 4TH ARMORED DIVISION IN FRINCE--Private First Casa Kenneth #. Roberts~2%, of 438 Jefferson street, Pascagot ta, Miss, light tank bow gunner with a mechanized cavalry re connaissance squadron, has been cited for meritorious achievement in combat and aided the Bronze Star by order of Major Gen. John S. Wood, Enenmanchepf the 4th Armored Division. ‘The citation reads: In the vi cinity of Juvelize, France, on Sep tember 22, 1944, enemy infantry attacked. Pfc. Roberts' company was ordered in With tanks to help repel the attack. Under cover of heavy fog 30 Mark V tanks, sup porting the infantry, appeared as a surprise to the light tanks already on the scene of action. Against insurmountable odds the light tanks attacked the infantry in an effort to slow to the at tack, thereby allowing the light ly, armed reconnaissance troops to withdraw. Here they were suc cessful .The infantry advance was mapped and the tanks’ attack was retarded until fiendly tank de stroyers and medium tanks could get into position to check them. Pvt. Roberts served as a vow gunner i one of the light tanks in this action. He performed ef ficiently with remarkable calm ness and courage.” Inducted into the Army June 10, 1942, Private, Roberts algo jholds the Purple Heart for “a wound received in action. He has been overseas a year with the 4th Armored Division, and participat ed in the crack arike division's spectacular drive, after the Nor mandy break-through, across the Brittany peninsula and then east to Alsace-Lorraine.
