nfiObituary.Alfred W. Whitmore, 8r., was born at Cheltenham, England, Aug. 10,1831. Died at Grayblake, Ills., Dec. 17, 1899. Mr. Whitmore came to this country September 1848 stopping at Corming. N. Y. thence from there to Port Dover, Canada. Returning to England two years later. He again returned to this country in 1NS2 by the way of the Gulf of Mexico and visited the West Indies and southern and eastern States. After spending three years in Natchez, Miss., he came north by the way of Miss , and landed at Cairo and cam by rail to Chicago and then to Waukegau. While in the north he traversed the Great Lakes. Ou August 12th, 1856 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth J. Hook, of Bridgewater, England and settled on a farm one-half mile west of Hainesville, Ills., ou which he lived until 1894 when they removed to Grayslake, his present residence, Mr. Whitmore during the past year tilled the position of Asst. P. M. Mr. Whitmore was the eldest son of Dr. William Whitmore a physician and surgeon, a doctor high in the ranks of his profession at that time. Mr. Whitmore united with the M. E. church when quite young. He served the church in capaticy of steward, trustee and other positions of usefulness. His life was bey oud reproach. Those who knew him best loved him most. His Illness was bat of few days duration and his sufferings intense. He knew that the time of his departure was at haud. His faith in God was strong and his hope of a glorious resurrection bright. The fnneral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 19, at the First Congregational church, Rev. Chapter assisted by Rev. Stevens officiating and the services were conducted by the Masonic Order, aud the remains laid at rest at Fox Lake, III. Those who ar£ left to mourn his loss are one brother and two sisters, Misses Alice and Harriet Whitmore, of Cheltenham. England, Mrs. A. W. Whitmore and three sons and one daughter, A. W. Whitmore, Jr., of Hainesville, Dr. C. C. Whitmore, of Chicago, O. U. Whitmore, of Hancock, Win., aud Aunie B. Whitmore, postmistress at this place.
