Death of Judge James S. Pope.I Zebulo.v, Ga., Dec. 22.,— Judge j James 8. Pope died at his home nef.r here Inst night at 11 o’clock. He was , taken sick last Sunday, and on Monday night ho had two or three convulsions, after which it was discovered that his entire left side had been paralyzed. On Tuesday and Wednesday he rallied and his family and friends entertained some hope of his recovery, but on yesterday afternoon he began to sink, and it soon became apparent to those who watched by his bedside that the end was near. He passed away calmly and peacefully,1 leaving a devoted wife and seven children—Rev. A. B. Pope and Martin Pope, of Zebulon; Ernest Pope, of Savannah; Cadesrnan Pope and Mrs.1 W. B. Baker, of Atlanta, and Mrs. W. B. Merritt and Mrs. W. E. Thomas, of Valdosta.Judge Pope was 54 years of age, and was a prominent citizen of the county, an able lawyer and upright man. He was time aDd again honored by his fellow-citizens, having been Judge of .the County Court, and having been Senator one terra from the Twenty-second Senatorial district, which is composed of the counties of Bibb, Monroe and Pike. His remains were interred at his home this afternoon, in the presence of a large concourse of friends, Judge Reagan having adjourned court in respect of the deceased lawyer.
