Asirro Statss Court House axp Lanp Office. —In pursuance to notice, a meeting was held at the City Council Chamber, on Saturday evening, the 24th inst., to take into consideration the sub ject of procuring from Congress in appropriation to erect a United States Court House and Land Office, in this city. William Sullivan, Esq., was chosen President, and James Blake and Henry S. Kellogg, Esqrs., were chosen Vice Presidents. Upon motion, John Coburn was appointed Sec retary. The meeting was addressed by James Blake, Esq., Hon. John B. Niles, J. P. Chapman, Esq., Robert B. Duncan, Esq., John D. Defrees, Esq., and John Coburn, upon the importance and neces sity of having a safe, permanent, and convenient building for our United States Courts and Land Offices. . John D. Defrees, Esq., offered the following res olutions, which were adopted : Required: That the interest of the public de mands that a building should be constructed for a United States Court House and Land Office, and that our delegation in Congress be requested to earnestly press the subject for action at the pres ent session. ‘Resolved, That a committee of five be appointed to draft a memorial to Congress, asking an appro priation for the purpose of erecting a building in this city for the use of the Federal Courts, and the General Government Land Offices, and that the same committee be authorized to draft a bill to carry out the object of the memorial. Upon motion, the chair appointed the following committee: John D. Defrees, James Blake, Wil dete Robson, Douglass Maguire, and John Co arn.
