Chena Man Is Bound Over to Await the Action of the Grand Jury After Prelim inary Hearing. GILLETTE THERE FOR PROSECUTION It Is Probable That Attempt ed Shooting Scrape Will Be Heard Before the Pres ent Grand Jury. CHENA, Dec. 27—Thomas Hag gart, of this place, was bound over to the grand jury this evening on a charge of attempting to shoot Richard Stein. The hearing was held before United States Commissioner William J. Fitzpatrick in his office, the United States government being represented by Assistant United States Attorney L. R. Gillette, who came down from Fairbanks on yes terday's train. As brought out at the prelim inary hearing, Haggart and Stein, both slightly intoxicated, had quar reled in the White Horse saloon Thursday evening. During the al tercation, it is alleged, Haggart pull ed a revolver from his pocket and leveled it at Stein, but at this junc ture William Zacharias, proprietor of the hotel, interfered, and in the resulting scuffle the revolver was dis charged without injury to anyone. In holding Haggart to the action of the grand jury, Commissioner Fitzpatrick fixed the bail at $1,000. It is expected that the matter will be brought before the grand jury which is now in session and the necessity for a trial determined.
