DOGS AND GATTLE IN EASTERN IOWA HAVE THE RABIESiThousands of Dollars Lost By Disease in Cattle— Several Persons Bitten.Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Dec. 27.— (Associated Press)—Dr. J. C. McCabe of West Liberty, president of the Eastern Iowa Veterinarians Society, himself the victim of a rabid dog; and I just recovering* from a nervous breakdown due to the dog’s bite, says cattle valued at thousands of dollars have suffered from the rabies in the eastern part of the s?cite this year, i Rab’nes were first reported near Oxford, fifteen miles west of Iowa City, where severaT head of live stock were bitten. It spread to Iow’a City, then east to Apalissa, thence to Mus-cattle, where the rabies was the heaviest, seventeen Children being bitten by one dog which had the disease. The total number infected in Muscatine county is estimated at 50. Though a quarantine has been established in Muscatine county, it is not beifig strictly obeyed Dr. McCabe said. ,A farmer living six miles south of Durant purchased five pure bred cows in Wisconsin, four of them and two other animals died of the disease. Twelve persons were nitten at West Liberty, tlie doctor said.
