Carlisle father and son, the full text of which is published in to day’s Courier, calls for a word of comment, while it brings to the glass of memory the savage scenes of other days. The history of tho homicide is very ably set forth in this document, and will be readily recalled by every citizen of this section. The Governor s pardon is recommended by such men as Col.Donby, Hon. Thomas Garvin, General Shackleford, J. M. Harlan, ex-Senator Dixon, John Young Brown, Azro Dyer, the Kentucky State officials, ox-Attorney General Speed and many others. Their conviction was due to tho popular feel-ing upon the subject, as is now confessed, and was not based upon pure legal evidence. The simple story is, that John M. Carlisle and Cyrus Carlisle, father and son, were incensed by the murder of a son and brother by Lieut. Hampton’s command. The Carlisles, residing in Webster county, Ky., wereconcerned in the abduction of this Union officer from Spencer county, In diana, with intent of delivering him to the officers of their county. In the progress of this attempt the officer was killed, but the homicide was not committed by the Carlisles. Their prelim-inarv examination on the chariro ofmurder took place in this county and a change of venue was then taken to Posey county. The war feeling of the populace was so strong that their conviction was assured before any evidence was taken. Their sentence followed to the penitentiary for life, where they have been confined until Governor Hendricks opened their prison door on yesterday. The action of the Governor will receive the sanction of the entire population of thissection independentof partisan bias. The Courier congratulates its readers that slow justice has come in such pleasing garb to tho innocent and wrongly punished Carlisles.— Evansville Courier.■€*-John Church told a Kentuckian1112City of Town cFor a IN] Each Ti years 1871 The atti 1873: “I tax-payer the full ar pay one-h fore the F charged si law.
