Mrs. Bidmey Sweet. Mrs. Sidney Sweet, widow of the late Hon. Sidney Sweet of this place died at the residence of Hon. J. B. Morey, early yesterday morning, in the 87th year of her age. Her maiden Dame was Hannah Redmond and she was the daughter of Col. *Mishael Redmond of Elbridge, Ongondaga county, N. Y, where she was born Aug. 10th, 1815. She had lived here in Dansville most of her married life, but for many years she and Mr. Sweet were great travelers, having spent much time in Europe, Egypt, the Holy Land, the West Indies, Mexico, California and the Sandwich Islands. They passed many winters in Florida and the Bermudas, but always turned loyally back to Dans ville, and both now and their final resting place in our beautiful Green mount Cemetery Mr. Sweet died in the fall of IkS7. Mrs. Sweet leaves three children, Mrs. Jonathan B. Morey and Geo. A. Sweet of this village, and Mr Edward F. Sweet of Grand Rapids, Michigan. The fun eral services will be held from the residence of Mr Morey on Saturday afternoon at two o'clock, Michael Carmody. George W. Foster. Michael Carmody died in Geneseo on Monday at the age of 82 years and the remains were brought to this village and taken to the residence of his son Michael where they remained until Saturday morning, when fune ral services were held at St. Patrick's church, Rev W. T. Dunn officiating. Mr Carmody was born in Ireland and came to this country 35 years ago. He lived at Union City, Pa., where he bossed a force of men on the railroad for a number of years, and for the past fifteen years he had lived in Dansville His wife died fif teen years ago His only sister was Mrs. Dennis Rowan, who died on ‘Tuesday, notice of which will be found elsewhere, Samuel Blythe. Samuel H. Blythe, for a quarter of a century the editor of the Living ston Republican, died at Geneseo on Saturday. He was born in England and was 75 years old He learned the moulders trade and worked at it twenty five years before assuring the position as editor of the Repub lican. He was an educated ian, a good parliamentarian, and possessed a judicial wind, and he was elected many terms to the office of justice of the peace in Geneseo. His funeral was held on Monday and it was con ducted by the Masonic order He leaves a son, S HO Blythe, who as the New York World's Washington correspondent, and two daughters John P. Best. John P Best died at his home on Franklin street on Friday aged 75 years. He was born in England and came to Dansville more than half a century ago. He was a carpenter by trade and among other things he made the gallows on which Isaac L. Wood was hung in Geneseo in 1858, for the murder of his brother D J Wood and his wife Mr Best was a Republican in politics and he had served one or two years as street commissioner and was one year sup erintendent of the water works under the old system. He leaves a wife. The funeral was held on Monday Lewis Collar Lewis Collar died last Friday at the residence of Wm Artman in Sparta, his age being 7$ years, a par alytic stroke received the day before causing his death He was born in Scottsburg and many years ago mar ries Miss Sarah Artman Mr. and Mrs. Collar lived in California some time, and after the death of Mr. Art man’s wife four years ago Mrs. Col lar came east east to be with her brother and Mr Collar followed soon after. Funeral services were held at the house on Friday and the remains were buried in the Union Cemetery. George W. Foster, one of our well known citizens, died suddenly at hig howe at half past three o’clock Mon day afternoon, of heart trouble. He had been seriously affected for a long time, and for a few days he suffered a good deal of pain. He was on the street Monday forenoon and after his return home he seemed cheerful. Just before his death Dr. Driesbach called at the house and shortly after his departure Mr. Foster sank down and died almost in his wife's arma. Mr. Foster was 05 years old last July. He was born in this village and had always lived here, working for about fifty years at blacksmith ing. He was a very social nan, with a kind word always for everyone and a great favorite with children. In August, 1862, he enlisted in Co. B., 136th N. Y. V., and served nearly three years when he was discharged by orders from the war department. Major Bailey who was captain of the company says Mr. Foster was one of his best soldiers. He was a member of Seth N. Hedges Post, No. 216, G. A. R., and was a good member. He was married to Mrs. Mary Crouch twenty years ago who survives to gether with two sisters, Mrs. Hannah Kemp of West Sparta and Mrs. Jennie Brown of Wilkesbarre, Pa., and two brothers, Dr. Daniel Foster of Wash ington, D.C., and John Foster of Allegany county, N. Y. The funeral will be held at two o'clock tomorrow afternoon, Rev. J. B. Bristol will of ficiate and the Post will attend. Mrs. Margaret Rowan. Mrs. Margaret Rowan, wife of Den nis Rowan, died at her residence in this village Tuesday afternoon at three o'clock from the effects of a stroke of paralysis,aged 70 years. Her maiden name was Margaret Carmody and she was born in Ireland in 1431, came to Dansville in 1858, and was married to Mr. Rowan April 1st of the same year and they have resided in this village every since. She was a devoted member of St. Patrick's church, a kind and loving wife and a good neighbor. She leaves besides her husband four children, Wm. H. H. Rowan, Mrs. Jas. P. Callahan, and John Rowan of this village and Michael Rowan of New York. Fun eral services will be held from St. Patrick's church Saturday morning at 0.30, Rev. W.T Duon will officiate Mrs. Louise Bill. Mrs. Louise Bill, who had lived many years at the Bill tavern stand on the Wayland road, died Saturday afternoon at the age of about 41 years. She was born in Diemengen, Rhenish Prussia, and came to this country with her parents in 1436 being 47 days en route Her husband was George Bill who died in 1864,and she leaves several children. Four weeks ago she fell and broke her hip and last Thursday she had a stroke of paralysis which was the cause of her death. Mrs. Sophia Richards of Hornellsville and Miss Mary Bauer of this village, her sisters, are all that remain of a large family who came out from Germany so many years ago. The funeral will be held at one o'clock this afternoon. Isaac McNair. Isaac McNair died a week ago at Great Falls, Montana, aged 76 years. He was a member of the Hucks County (Pa) family of McNairs and was the brother of Rev. A.... Mc Nair and Mrs. David McNair of West Sparta. He married Caroline Pier pont McNair of “Oak Grove” in the town of Sparta and spent much of his time in this section, especially during his latter years. Last April he went west to visit his children, intending to return at some time He leaves three or four children. Mr. McNair was a gentleman of the “old school,” possessing a mind enriched by study and travel, and a mean whom it was a pleasure to meet
