Institute Notes. The Maryland Bulletin of Sat urday says: During the present week the leisure hours of the older pupils have been occupied in the manufacture of Christ mas desorations. Mottoes, wreaths, and various other designs in ever green have rapidly grown beneath their willing fingers; while “ropes” of cedar and laurel have lengththened as by magic. Santa Clara is expected on Christmas Eve at eight o'clock sharp, hence these preparations. The Christmes vacation begins this year on Dec. 22, on which day the pupils leave for their homes, and will continue until Jan. 2,—a total of eleven days. Some forty papple wil remain at the school, where arrange ments have been completed to make the holidays ¢ pleasant time for thet Availing himself of the three weeks vacation given by his College, Mr. C. R. Ely arrived here Dec. 20. He will return to Yale Jan. 8. Harvey P. Grow, of the Western Maryland College, arrived here this morning and will spend two weeks with his parents, return to college, on the 5th of Jan. It affords us much pleasure to an nounce that Mrs. James H. Dean of West Superior, Wisconsin,is at present visiting friends in this city. For sev eral years Mr. and Myre. Dean made their home at the Fire-hole hotel, Yellowstone National Park, where many of the delegates to the California convention had the pleasure of meet ing them in the summer of 1836. During the pest fell, however, they removed to their present residence at West Superior.
