It is the purpose of the compaoj and tho expressed desire of the Government that the continuation of our line west of Fort Riley should be located far enough south to accommodate the Colorado and Santa Fe trade.This company, with the California Central, have the only existing charters to cross the continent with railroad, all other companies having forfeited all their granU and endowments by the lapse of time.With reference to our eastern connections, arrangements ate already concluded with tho Pacific Railroad of filissouri for the immediate completion of their road to the connection with the Union Pacific Railway, E. D., at the State line of Missouri and Kaosas, and also to run a Railway from Kansas City to Cameron, on the Hannibal and St. Joseph Road, thereby giving an immediato connection with Chicago.We shall open tho first section of 40 miles west from Kansas City on the 1st dsy of January, 1864, and shall go right on with the work at the rate of a mile per day, until the work is completed.I shall be very glad to hear from you and to have you forward to us each information within your knowledge as in your judgment will promote the iaterest of the enterprise, particularly tho statistics of the resources and trade of that wonderfully favored and yet little known country.Faithfully yours,J.
