The star, imported to Salem from Saxony when the American community wfas settled over 150 years ago, glow's brighter now because electric lights have replaced candles for illumination. The hollow star is of an elaborate geometric shape, with its 32 points divided evenly through three dimensions and tapering gracefully to points.
