International News Service. Catalina Island, Cal., Dec. 25.— William Wrigley Jr. of Chicago sand Los Angeles insy be America’s most Versatile millionaire. Today he is ‘launching a gigantic mining venture on Catalina island, where silver was mined when knights were bold in the days of old and pi rates sailing the broad Pacific had headquarters on the historic island. Shafts are being sunk and mining operations opened upon a large scale, while flotation mill expected to run more than $1,500,000 in silver, lead and zinc ¢ concentrates annnually is ready to start its long grind. At the Mount Black Jack mine, the biggest of the isled properties, the main shaft is down 450 feet and there are four levels. are taken from this minesig about as rich as any ever extracted on the American con tinent, some running more than 200 ounces of silver to the ton. Fighter two percent leads has been assayed from other ore in the mine.
