OVER THE RIVERItems of Interest Reported From All Parts of Illinois.The Crossville correspondent of the Carmi Partisan says: “About one mile from Winkler's ferry on the Indiana side, in the cutoff hilla, there is supposed to be a hidden treasure that lias been there for years. People have strived to find it but never did succeed. It was placed there by one named Rapp, who was related to the Rapps that helped to settle New Harmony, Ind. Rapp went to New Orleans and lived for two or three years, and there was taken sick, and j when the shadows of death were creeping i over him he revealed and confided his secret! to a blind man who was his friend. The | dying man stated that he had buried in the cut-off hilts a large amount of gold and gave the description of the place, and told the blind man that, if he could secure the tresis-] ure he was welcome to it. The blind man I came to this State, told his errand, and t ried to get some one to lead him to (he spot where the cut-off hills were, but no one would take this on themselves; so the poor, blind, unfortunate being, who really deserved aid. went, away sadly—and people would prowl around after nigl t and dig for the barrel of gold. On such an errand, three of our most prominent. ciii/.ei s wont to the lonely spot where the treasure is supposed to be hidden and with the intention of coming back rich. Arriving at the spot, they staked off ground and waited for the shades of night to approach when they could dig to their hearts' content. We do not know whether they wotked any or not, but we know that we saw the fortune hunters coming hack just at the turn of night with their horses jaded very much—and as for the rest, it is vouched for by a man of standing who lives only one mile from the place where the treasure is said to he concealed.
