For a long time U has been a nuisance 10 the country, only affording a receptacle for filth, breeding “pollywogs,M miasma, and scattering the seeds of sickness all over the country. During the greater part of the summer, when most needed, it was out of order. The banks were either broken, or thero was no water to fill it.— fJB^ero was eternally something “out of fix/** Tins was not owing to^ any mismanagement on the part of the Superintendents. yet the effect iias been the same and has been keenly felt by our merchants. For all the good it lias done us, it might have been filled upjThe lower division, reaching as far up as Newberry, is no,v filled and in good boating condition. This Division is under the superintendence of Capt. K. B. Osborn. It is considered one of the most difficult divisions, to manage, on the whole canal. But our jovial, gentlemanly friend, the Captain, understands how to fix a canal as well as “crack a joke/' and has surmounted every obstacle, and rendered it one of the best.Division No. 6, is under the charge of our friend Major Downing. By his indefatigable* labors, and judicious management, it has been completely repaired, and is now ready to be filled. The upper “level,9* commencing at the Reservoir, and extending to Terre-IIaute, is now filling. If there is sufficient water in the Reservoir, the rest of the Division will be filled immediately.We may expect business to revive as\\T
