Farm House Totally Destroyed. The community was astounded Sunday afternoon to hear of the total destruction by fire of the handsome farm residence of Henry Ling:, who resides about four miles north of this city. The entire family had gone to church at Lighthouse, and the fire was first discovered by a passerby, who notified the neighbors, who willingly ran to the rescue. The flames, however, had gained too much headway to enter the structure, hence nothing of value was saved. It was a heavy grief for the family to return, not to their commodious home, but to a burning mass of ruin, and the community far and near sympathizes with them in this calamity. The residence was an imposing structure of twelve rooms, modernly furnished, and had been occupied by the family about one year. Everything of their person-ial belongings were lost except the 1 clothes they were wearing.! The cause of the fire is unknown, but J it is supposed that an overheated furnace or si leakage in the gas-lighting system was the cause. The loss was close to $8,000, with $3,500 insurance.
