- - - ■ —OEATH OF M. RIOHARO*1IIS DEMISE AT HIS MOTUKB’S HOUSE IS NEW YORK,Word was received-in this city this morning of tiie death of Dr. Richards, of Highland Park. He died at his mother’s home in New York, where be had been under treatment for two weeks. The Doctor waa well known in this city. He was a Mason, a Knight Templar, a member of the Honorable |Ordor of Elks, a member of the Knights of Pythias and of the Mystic 1 Shrine, and other societies.Whatever might be said of his faults, it may be said of him that Highland Park loses a resident who lias done much for it and its progress and prosperity. He owns a large aud handsome place there, and it is probable that his wife will continue to manage this, lie was also engaged in several other enterprises. He was interested with his brother-in-law in raining and timber lands in Tennessee,, where they owned 8,000-acres of valuable land near Chattanooga.The Doctor was deeply interested also in theatrical work, anu had a share in sev eral menageries. He was a manufacturer of two very successful patent medicines, and was a regular graduate of the New York College of Physicians and Surgeons, The Doctor practiced medicine for some time in New York, and came here a poor man about 18 years ago. He purchased from S. C\ Ballard hie handsome residence and grounds in Highland Park, making thereon many and costly improvements, as well' as subscribing liberally for public improvements.The Doctor’s name was Robert Givan Richards, although he has been known in this community as Fairchild-Hichards, and through his patent medicines as Dr. Horace L. Fairchild. He was a son of the late Henry T. Richards, and a stepson of Geo. H. Moore, and was related to the Rmf- Dr. Howard Crosby, of Now York. He bad relatives living in Poughkeepsie, and he will be privately buried there on Sunday.The Doctor arranged two weeks ago to go to Florida with his liif brother, Dr. Moore, for the benefit of his health, but was taken too ill to proceed further than his mother’s home in New York. He was 52 years old and leaves a wife, who was with him when he died, and an adopted daughter. It is estimated that he died worth nearly $100,000.,The children, of whom Dr. Richards was passionately fond, will miss him greatly. None will mourn his death more sincerely than they.
