SPORTS By STAN JONES Carthage Press Sports Editor Well, it’s that time of the year again. No, not that one. It’s the time when area coaches make out their lists for Santa Claus. To some, it may be a super player in one form or another. To another, especially if he or she is losing, it could be a lucrative position in an insurance or sporting goods firm. Anyway, here vs. Mike Catron, head CSHS girls basketball coach — A basketball player over six feet that can growl when someone apps the hoop underneath. Tom Gosch, Webb City head football coach — A picture of those big linemen of past year so he can better remember what is used to be like. Dwight Arner, head CSHS boys cage mentor — An aide to better free throw shooting (it wasn’t needed Tuesday night). Dave Tapp, head CSHS football coach — He's still looking for that silverplated soft drink bottle for his favorite pastime. Jim Frazier, head MSSC football coach — New tires for staff cars. They've been driving a lot lately during their an nual recruiting campaign. Gary Garner, head MSSC basketball coach — He hasn't even talked about Christmas yet. He’s just waiting for the econd half of his first season when Kevin Hay and Roland Martin join his squad. Ron Ellis, MSSC assistant basketball coach — His needs are simple — a cleaning woman for the second drawer of his desk of the left side. Sallie Beard, head MSSC girls cage mentor — Parental consent for her players on those out -of-town games when they travel with the boys team. Warren Turner, head MLSC baseball coach — Nothing fan cy .... just pitchers. Gary Roark, head CSHS baseball coach — he still wants that Christmas baseball tourney and someone to take over the American Legion team at times so he can float Indian Creek. Rick Utter, head Webb City basketball coach — Size, stength, experience. Jack Shaver, head basketball coach, McDonald County That last minute of play with the Carthage Tigers. Tony Calwhite, assistant MSSC football coach — More fishing equipment and more time to use it. He wouldn't ob ject, however, for a couple of defensive backs and a linebacker or two for future years. Don Gaddis, assistant MLSC football coach — He's still un decided. However, he could always use another Larry Bar nes or two, maybe another quality quarterback for in surance. Roger Kirby, CSHS wrestling coach — A place to practice close to the high school. Jack Netherton, head Nevada basketball coach — Future replacement for 6-9 Kevin Williams. Dewey Coombs, head football coach at Parkwood — A little recognition from the MSHSAA for his undefeated Bears squad — the only team to be Class 3A champion Memorial this season. Charles Goade, head Neosho basketball coach — a quick season. John Shipley, assistant Carthage basketball coach — A guide for traveling in Europe (family group) at less expense than staying home during the summer. Linda Roark, Linda Arner and all those other coaches wives — Life-size photos of their husbands so they can remember what they look like during those long athletic seasons. Dr. Max Oldham, MLSC Athletic Director — More gym space, more athletic money, more teachers, more assistants, more coaches, etc. Well, the list is endless. Many have been left out. Some of them are getting their inner-most wishes answered. Others are like the typical coaches and athletic directors frustrated. In that respect, they do resemble most sports writers. What does this writer want? All I need is soemone to put those childrens Christmas toys together. I’ve discovered it’s much easier to install a normal working clothes dryer than it was of those appliances to be assembled for our twin daughters Jennifer and Stacy.
