New County.A *.! »ong effort is being1 made by the friends of lhe proposed new county of“George’’ to have favorable action taken upon the matter at the coming session of the legislature. The proposition for this new county is to make it out of parts of Amite, Franklin and Wilkinson, by taking 210 square miles from the western part of Amite, 133 from the eastern part of Wilkinson and ninety-four from the southwestern part of Franklin, making a county of 437 square miles and a population of 14,000, and with a assessed valuation of about $3,000,000. It would leave Amite 510 square miles, assessment $2,400,000, and a population of 16,000. It would leave Franklin with 468 square miles, an assessment of $1/250,000, a«nd a population of 13,000.
