True. St Is only n few cents’ worth per day. yet In a season the tee bill would far exceed the amount the average farmer could afford to expend.lt; lie is kept from putting up Ills own Ice by the notion time seem® to be prevalent that, an ice honsojs au expensive affair* and the success, of packing a doubtful sequence. This is a mistaken Idea. Rclow we give a description of a fifty-ton lee house and the method of packing the ice which has stood the test and proven both practical and cheap. The house can be of any size desired, this being larger than most farmers rcqidre. A good plan is to get several nelgnbors to put up the building and pack together, sharing the firstexpense and after labor. The building should be si I unled on ground that is high enough to dip lit the surface water away from it, a$ Iff hits no floor. It is IttxIbxlO feet, the walls made double. *wttli nil 8-Hich space between the outside and inside sheeting. This space, is packed with straw and chaff pounded In as closely as possible. A good roof that will not leak is required; In this house boards with battened cracks will prove all right and much cheaper than shingle.Rut one opening 1s necessary, the door through which to put In and lake out the ice. This Is about. 2*^x4 feet square and 8 inches in thickness, to correspond with the walls of the building, it is made like a Ihx 2kjX4 feet, and 8 inches deep, filled like Ihe wall with chuff .or ?tni w.Refore packing, till the bottom of the room with about S inches, of cinders or some such substance (hut. will readily take In the water. Pack the Ice on this, leaving a space of from 8 Inches to a foot between the lee nmU walls to lie filled In wlth.«suwdust. chaff or straw. This should be cramped in as tlghtfy as possible. AH the cracks and crevices between Ihe lee cakes should be tilled In with pounded lee, making the mass as compact as can be. Ice put up in this way will not melt down a foot In the whole season. It will not melt If Ihe sun. rain and air are excluded, and a reasonable chance given It to drain off the little water which comes fromIt.-Epllomlst.• - ♦iMowinu to Kill (iraitlionueri.
