She ran in the Cincinnati and New Orleans trade, and ho remained on Iter until she went to St, Louis. On the very next trip she exploded her boiler, with terrible loss of lite, while on her way to New Orleans. Ke returned here and went watchman on the Rose Hite in the Louisville, Evausville and Henderson trade. He remained on her until the Louisiana came out in the Cincinnati and New Orleans trade as watchman, hut, after one season, bis health c-'mpelled him ‘ to quit. In 1868 he weut watchman ou tlt;lt;* famous Tantscon in the Louisviiie and Evausville trade and be has been Cinstantly employed as Mate and Capt tin ou the boats of this line ever since.About nine years he took command of the Mattie Hays, H#| was afterward given charge of Use Rainbow, then the Tell City, then the famous Junes Guthrie, and a few days ago took charge of one of the finest and fastest sidewheel boats ou the Ohio river, the Citv of Owensboro, leaving here every Tuesday and Friday tor Evansville. Capt. Hawkins is a widower with two children, a sort and daughter.
