y. M. C. A.An Organization Completed Last Evening.Piqua is to have a Young Men’s Christian Association. For some time there has been talk of such an organization, but nothing much was done toward it until the conference met in this city a few weeks ago. At that time a number of the Statd officers of the Association were present, and strongly urged the citizens to go ahead with the work. Committees appointed to solicit signatures for membership, and in a few days the committee bad the pleasure of reporting over three hundred names. Committees were also appointed to solicit subscriptions, to carry on the work. The citizens generously responded to their request and soon S4tXK) was raised. It was decided last Sunday not to organize until the sum of $5000 had been pledged. A meeting was called for last eyeuing to complete arrangements for the organization. The meeting was held in the Greene street M. E. church and a large number of persons who are interested in the work were present.Mr. L. L. Doggett called the meeting to order :,i id U. JC Wood was ap pointed chairman of the meeting aud L. E. Ralston secretary.A scripture lesson was read by Rev.J. W. Kerr, and prayer was offered by Rev. P. M. Weddell.Mr. I*. L. Poggett, of Cleveland, one of the State secretaries of the Y. M. C.A. was present, and gave an outline of the work in the different cities. The; constitution adopted by the different Associations throughout the btate was read and 011 motion adopted.A junior department was also organized for boys between the ages of 10 and 15 ye ax s. The membership fees for this department has not been de cided on, but will probably be about two dollars. The privileges of the junior members are limited to the use of the rooms at certain hours of the day.A committee «f five was appointed to place in nomination the names of fifteen pereons, who shall act as an executive committee, and have charge of the affairs of the Association.The following gentlemen were named as the committee: M E. Daniels and W. Orr.The Board of Managers will hold a meeting at the Third National Bank this evening to make final arrangements.. Mr. A. M. Orr, chairman of the finance committee, reported that including membersnip fees, there had been $4750 pledged, and that by Wednesday evening the committee hoped to report the necessary 85UUU as pledged.A Young Men's Christian Association will be oi great importance to our city. Nearly all the larger cities and towns 111 the State have such an organization, and it is the means of doing much good. It is hoped that those citizens who have not already con trill uled to this great work will do so ai oncn, and by so doing help the Board of Managers to cornu!ete the necessary arrangemeets at once. h}
