Father Morris, of Villa Nova, contributes an article, entitled “ Christmas Ere on the Mission.” It is a realistic description of his own life in the early days of his mission. The story of hardships and danger, incident to night at Christmas time, spent io at open boat, on a stormy sea, is releived by a thread of faith and hopefulness in the omnipresence of the Supreme Ruler. Father Morris always writes well, and he treats the sketch in his usually good style. The Rev. L. G. McNeil, late pastor of St, Andrew's Church, in this city, writes an article from St. John, N.B., under the heading of “Newfoundland Memories and Canadian Aspirations. It is filled with reminisences of the time of his residence here, some few years since, and kindly recollections of the people of St. John’s. Though ministering to a larger flock, and surrounded with new faces and friends, there is an evident desire underlying the whole article to be back once more to the Manse on the hill. The Rev. gentleman, who was highly respected by all creeds and classes during his residence here, speaks hopefully of the future of Newfoundland,Rev, Dr. Howley’s article on the 11 French Shore, is a complete digest of the question. Though written in a Hghtand very readable style, for which the rev, gentleman is famous, there is there is a sober seriousness about the article not at first noticeable to a superficial reader. The inconsistencies of the who!e question are shown in such a clear light that the article will have, perhaps, more to do, removing the supine indifference of the British Government than anything written on the subject before.
