HARTFORD, Conn. (UPI) — Hartford Whalers center Andre Lacroix, the all-time point producer of the defunct World Hockey Association, retired Thurs day, the National Hockey League team announced. Lacroix, 34, will take a front office position with the Whalers, said Jack Kelly, the team’s Director of Hock ey Operations. Lacroix notched a record 798 points and once played in an unprecedented 473 straight games over six sea sons in the WHA. He also set a league record with 106 as sists while playing with San Diego in 1974 and 1975. Lacroix’s new duties will include scouting, player evaluations and public rela tions, Kelly said.
