Hornets Win Sixth Beat Elgin 50 To 41 Snook Wins Third Place In AM TourneyBeat Caldwell 48 To 37 In Opening GameThe Caldwell Hornets won their sixth basketball game of the season Tuesday night, heating the Elgin Wildcats 50 to 41. The Hornets have lost five times. The game was played in Hornet gym.At the end of the first period, Caldwell led 9 to 5. In the second quarter Elgin took a 14-13 lead, and after Caldwell tied the score at 14-14, the Wildcats again took the lead 18-16 with four minutes left in the half. Then Caldwell took the lead at 18-16 and 20-16. After Elgin cut the lead to 20-18, Caldwell scored 8 straight points in the final two minutes to take a 28-18 halftime lead. The third quarter saw the Hornets build their lead to 69 to 27. In the final period Elgin came back to outscore Caldwell 14 to 11, but still fell short 50 to 41.Four Hornets hit in double figures, with Jewel Dearnian leading the scoring with 17 points. Johnny Skrabanek with 11 points and Dick Bowers and Elton Davis with 10 each were other Hornets in double figures.Jewel Dearman and Johnny Skrabanek led the rebounding for Caldwell.Caldwell shot 61 percent from the free throw line, hitting on 14 of 23 attempts. Hearne closed the gap by a point by halftime, as they trailed 25 to 19 at the intermission. Snook broke the game wide open in the third quarter, the Eagle to 6, making the the Eagles to 6, making thescore 40 to 25 with one quarter to plav. The Bluejays kept up their pace in the final period outscoring Hearne 17 to 5.Melvin See led the Bluejays in scoring with 21 points. Daniel Junek and Frankie See also hit in double figures with 14 and 13 points respectively.
