CANTON DISTRICT—Burbank-Canaan: The centennial of Burbank Church was celebrated Sunday, Novem-ber 5. Dr. Warren O. Hawkins, district superintendent, preached in the morning. A sumptuous dinner was served to all visitors. In the afternoon former Pastors H. E. Stout and W. T. Miller were the principal speakers. The Rev. D. C. DeFoe. pastor of the United Brethren Church, extended fraternal greetings and the Rev. E. L. Smith and many former members of the church gave reminiscences. Dr. Vernon V\ ade \\ agar, superintendent of the Norwalk District, spoke in the evening. Dr. Wagar's father was pastor of Burbank Church when Vernon was a boy. The church was organized in 1833 in the home of Christian Hower. a local preacher, and the Hower family have been active in the work of? the church throughout the century. N. H. Hower. a merchant of Burbank, grandson of Christian Hower, is a trustee of the church, and was for many years treasurer. His daughter, Mrs. Mary Hower Frarv, presided at the afternoon meeting, and another daughter, Mrs. Nellie Hower Edgar, was chairman of the Committee on Hospitality. The new pastor on this charge, the Rev. E. A. Jester, planned and directed the celebration. Although the day was one of ice and sleet, the congregation filled the church and the spirit was excellent.
